Whole House IRON AND HYDROGEN SULFIDE Water Filters uses media formulated from glauconite green sand; effectively removes iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor) usually found in water.
The system is installed in the main water line. When the raw water enters the iron filter, it passes down through the filter media and get oxygenated. The oxygen causes precipitation of the minerals and any iron, manganese or hydrogen sulfide present in your water supply is trapped, resulting in a clean filtered water flow to your household.
The filter media is periodically regenerated automatically, backwashing the trapped minerals into the drain and regenerated by replacing the oxygen. This is done by introducing potassium permanganate into the media.
The system comes with the a Potassium Permanganate container. With proper installation, it removes the following contaminants, resulting in healthier water:
- 15 ppm of both ferric (oxidized) and ferrous (clear) iron
- 05 ppm of Hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg odor)
- 10 ppm of manganese
Note: These systems are designed for water supplies with Ph between 6.6 and 8.8. If your water supply have a pH of 6.5 or less, you need to neutralize the Ph before it passes through the system. IRON AND HYDROGEN SULFIDE Whole House Water Filter Specifications
Water goes through 3 stages of filtration.
In Stage 1, water flows through a 20"x2.5" sediment pre-filter that removes sediment, dirt and silt. This water filter also extends life of the main unit
In Stage 2, water flows through a large 5' mineral tank that contains Iron and Hydrogen Sulfide reducing media.
CQ-IGS is formulated from a glauconite green sand which is capable of reducing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration. Soluble iron and manganese are oxidized and precipitated by contact with higher oxides of manganese on the CQ-IGS granules. The hydrogen sulfide is reduced by oxidation to an insoluble sulfur precipitate. Precipitates are then filtered and removed by backwashing. When the oxidizing capacity power of the CQ-IGS bed is exhausted, the bed has to be regenerated with a weak potassium permanganate (KMnO4) solution, thus restoring the oxidizing capacity of the bed. 1½ to 2 ounces of potassium permanganate, in solution, per cubic foot of CQ-IGS is considered sufficient for normal regeneration. It is required to vigorously backwash and regenerate the bed when it is placed in service and before its oxidation capacity is totally exhausted. Operating the bed after oxidation capacity is exhausted will reduce its service life and may cause staining.
In Stage 3, water flows through a 20"x2.5" solid carbon block filter cartridge. Carbon (also called Charcoal ) has been used in water filtration for centuries. It effectively removes or reduces many contaminants including Volatile Organic Compounds ( VOCs ), insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents.IRON AND HYDROGEN SULFIDE Filter Components
